Optimise media temperatures in dishes with VitroTemp
Document and Ref: VitroTemp™ makes it easier to maintain the optimal temperature of media in dishes based on accurate fast and simple measurements that replicate the actual conditions for procedures used in the IVF lab. It is a specially designed temperature measurement solution that combines an advanced digital readout instrument with a custom made probe, a Pt100 sensor attached to the bottom of the Vitrolife square dishes. It’s easy to use and provides more consistent temperature measurements than most thermometers commonly used in IVF labs today 1 .
Clinical evaluation and user experiences with Vitrolife Labware dishes
Document and Ref: The specially designed square dishes were clinically evaluated in two ways; for embryo development and clinical pregnancy and for usability and user friendliness. The results show that Vitrolife Labware dishes are safe and support treatment success when used for clinical IVF. In addition the dishes scored higher on usability compared to other dishes commonly used for IVF.

Vitrolife MEA can detect sub-optimal conditions
Document and Ref: It has been reported that not all disposables on the market used for IVF fulfil the quality standard needed for safe procedures. Approximately 25% of all contact materials failed pre-screening with an accurate and sensitive Mouse Embryo Assay (MEA) and were considered sub-optimal for IVF 4 . Vitrolife has developed the most sensitive MEA protocols. These assays are capable of detecting toxic and sub-optimal raw materials, media, and contact materials. The MEA from Vitrolife is sensitive enough to identify subtle problems that will also lead to impaired human embryo development.
Why you should only use IVF certified plastics
Document and Ref: There are at least 30 plastic items involved in every IVF procedure. If each of them reduce the embryo viability by 2%, the final viability at re-implantation is reduced by 44%. Download this white paper to learn about what to think about when using plastics in your IVF lab.
Maintaining the correct temperature is a critical environmental factor for gametes and embryos and needs to be carefully monitored.

White paper VitroTemp
Document and Ref: To avoid the risk of a temperature exceeding +37.0°C for the oocyte/embryo, it is crucial to set the heated surface temperature accurately. Read the white paper on estimation of system-level measurement uncertainty for VitroTemp
New temperature probe and measurements
Document and Ref: Christer Silversand This presentation was part of Vitrolife and Igenomix live Academy Studios from ESHRE 2023.
Calibration
Document and Ref: The VitroTemp probes need to be calibrated on a regular basis. Regulatory authorities recommend that you calibrate thermometers for IVF annually. We recommend you calibrate the thermometer at 35, 37 and 39°C in order to cover measurements at physiological temperature, as well as temperatures below and above this temperature. Send the thermometer and the probe to a certified and accredited service partner for this calibration. Calibrate according to standard procedures for this type of probe. See list of appointed service partners we recommend.
How to use VitroTemp
Document and Ref: To measure the temperature of a medium in a dish during manipulations outside the incubator is very simple and straight forward when using VitroTemp.
VitroTemp is the perfect complement to Vitrolife square dishes
Document and Ref: Our dishes are specifically designed to support and facilitate IVF procedures, making your work easier and more effective. All square dishes have an absolute flat bottom. When placed on a heated stage, all dishes receive the same bottom temperature. VitroTemp is specifically designed for temperature measurements of media in Vitrolife square dishes while handled outside the incubator. This is a completely new way to measure temperature in media during manipulations in open air. Once you have calibrated the temperature of your heated stage you can feel confident that all dishes will have the same temperature. Our dishes are manufactured with quality controlled and certified materials. The finished products are further tested to ensure a secure environment for gametes and embryos.

30% less pain according to Buisman et al.
Document and Ref: 2020 saw a randomised controlled trial involving 95 patients, the objective of which was to study pain in women undergoing oocyte retrieval with a reduced needle (20/17 G) compared to a standard needle (16 G) 4 . It concluded that the use of a thinner needle results in significantly lower (and clinically relevant) pain scores during oocyte retrieval. Using single Sense, patients experienced 30% less pain, compared to the group using a standard needle. Patients in the reduced needle group requested significantly less analgesia during oocyte retrieval than patients in the standard needle group. Pain scores remained significantly lower up to until 2 days after the procedure.
Significantly less bleeding and pain according to Wikland et al.
Document and Ref: To prove the benefits of the unique design of Sense, a prospective, randomised, multi-centre study was carried out in 2010 1 . The results were clear. Oocyte retrieval performed with the single Sense needle resulted in significantly less vaginal bleeding compared to a conventional needle. Using the Sense needle also resulted in a significantly reduced overall pain experience – 19% lower compared to a conventional needle. Most importantly, there were no differences in the number of oocytes with intact zona pellucida after aspiration, regardless of needle size.
Talking SENSE™ with Prof. William Ledger
Document and Ref: The unique design of Sense provides ideal conditions for optimised oocyte retrieval performance and aspiration time as well as improved patient comfort. In this video Prof. William Ledger shares his expertise and experience using the Sense follicle aspiration needle during oocyte reterival.

Document and Ref: Our oocyte collection tube is certified and quality tested at all stages of manufacture from the raw materials to the finished product – to ensure the right conditions for gametes and embryos.
Benefits with local anaesthesia and conscious sedation during oocyte retrieval
Document and Ref: Prof. Wikland has been using local anaesthesia together with conscious sedation since he started performing oocyte retrievals in the 1980´s. In this short movie where he explains why using local anaesthesia together with conscious sedation is beneficial, he also explains how to perform the procedure. The LAN-needle can be used in this procedure.
MEA tested
Document and Ref: To detect toxic materials, Vitrolife has developed a highly sensitive 1-cell mouse embryo assay (MEA) that follows the development of single-cell mouse embryos to hatching blastocysts. This assay is far more sensitive than the widely used 2-cell MEA.

“I really like using the Sense needle and since I first picked it up a couple of years ago, we have gradually introduced it for all oocyte retrievals. The reason why we switched to the Sense needle from other follicle aspiration needles is two-fold: firstly, the narrow tip means less vaginal bleeding and less trauma to the vaginal wall and ovary, and, because of this, the patients have less pain and less post-procedural ache.“

The endometrial receptivity test with most scientific background on the market
Document and Ref: ERA® (Endometrial Receptivity Analysisis) backed by more scientific publications than any other endometrial receptivity test in the market. The ERA test has been performed on more than 240,000 women worldwide, with 3 in every 10 women having a displaced WOI 1 . This extensive clinical experience paired with artificial intelligence (AI), allows for continual refinement of the ERA predictor algorithm, making ERA the most precise test for personalized transfer timing. The initial indication for ERA is repeated implantation failure (RIF), offering an implantation solution to those women who have not achieved a successful pregnancy otherwise. ERA improves implantation and pregnancy rates In an externally published study, women with RIF undergoing a pET guided by ERA experienced significantly improved pregnancy and implantation rates versus women with RIF who underwent a transfer at the standard timing and without ERA testing 2 . The ERA test can also be beneficial for women who are at increased risk for having a displaced WOI, including women with a BMI >30 3,4 , adenomyosis 5 , or an atrophic endometrium 6 .
